Wag 'N' Walk!!!

This year in the end of September, there's an organization called the Wag 'N' Walk. The Wag 'N' Walk is where you take your dogs to a park near Royal High School in Simi Valley and you walk your dogs. Before you take your dog, make sure your dog is well mannered and you know it won't get into any dog fights. At the Wag 'N' Walk fundraiser to help the Animal Rescue Volunteers, there's food, and water, and a silent auction. You also get free dog treats, and salami. There's pet services like Taylor's Pets that have stands to advertise their buisnesses. Taylor's Pets didn't have a stand though. We also got free dog food and since my aunt and I have at least 1 cat, we got a free little bag of cat food, along with the free dog food. Also, a rescue organization put up dogs for adoption. Maybe you'll get a new furry friend.

The Wag 'N' Walk is a great way to meet new friends and to get excrise. We walk 1 1/2 miles to a certain place down in the Simi Valley Arroyo and then 1 1/2 miles back. So we walked a total of 3 miles. That was great excrise and it was tiring! When you sign in at the Wag 'N' Walk organization sign in place, you should donate some money to help Animal Rescue Volunteers. Hopefully we'll see you next year! Good books!

Dog Lost

A shivering wet bundle, Cash arrives in the life of twelve-year-old Mackenzie. And from that moment boy and dog share a love neither has ever known before. But when Cash is kicked out by Mackenzie’s father, she finds herself lost and alone in a cruel world.
Will she ever find her boy again?

This book is truely an amazing story. It is about BSL and some dogfighting. Dogfighting is illegal because it is animal cruelty and we want to stop animal cruelty. This is a great book, great for kids 9-13 but I highly suggest that it is 10-and up. It has some drunk kids in there so.... we don't want to give kids an ok to drink on a train track and think they'll be alive. You can get this book at Borders or Barnes & Noble or anyother bookstore or where ever they sell books like Target for example. I highly suggest it.

There's another good book that is an adult best seller that teenagers could also read. It is the love and life of the world's worst dog, Marley. There are also a kid version of Marley & Me and other storys such as Bad Dog Marley and A Very Marley Christmas for kids. Marley & Me is a very heartwarming story and urges you to get a dog. They also tells you what happens if the dog is a naughty puppy! This is sold where ever books are sold. I suggest this book. It is now a movie starring Owen Wilson as John Grogan and Jennifer Aniston as Jenny.

Amazing Gracie by Dan Dye and Mark Beckoff.

Gracie was a deaf and partially blind albino Great Dane with a delicate constitution and a penchant for small miracles. Dan is the man-sad over the loss of his last dog and trapped in a dead-end job-who adopted her. Three Dog Bakery is the burgeoning and much-publicized chain of canine bakeries that, inspired by Gracie, Dan and his friend Mark founded. A love story, AMAZING GRACIE describes how Dan saves Gracie, the loneliest pup in the litter, then how, over the next ten years, Gracie saves Dan and Mark, teaching them the real meaning of happiness. There's the moment of meeting, when Gracie gets to her feet like a clumsy foal and nuzzles Dan's nose. Gracie's romance with the pint-size Boston Terrier next door. And the eureka moment (born of Gracie's anorexia-inducing dislike for commercial dog food): Dan teaches himself to cook and within three days begins baking the dog cookies that will transform their lives. AMAZING GRACIE is a dog-lover's treat. (overview written by www.amazon.com)

Oogy

Oogy is an amazing and heart warming story in which a family is found by a abused puppy. Yes, you read right, the family is found by the dog. Larry Levin and his family found the dog accidently. They were not even looking to adopt a dog into their family. I don't want to spoil such a stupendous story, so I guess you have to read it for yourself to see what happens. I give this book 5 stars out of 5. I recommend this to young adults and up because most teenagers won't understand most of the vocabulary.

Four Feet Tall and Rising: A Memoir: Shorty Rossi

Luigi Francis Shorty Rossi, the tough-talking, fedora-wearing star of Animal Planet’s hit show Pit Boss, may stand only four feet tall but that hasn’t stopped him from living large, becoming a successful businessman and an outspoken advocate for pit bulls, the most misunderstood breed of dog in the world.

A third generation dwarf, ex-gang member, and ex-con, Shorty knows what it’s like to be misunderstood and in this candid memoir, he shares his personal story for the first time. No one expected Shorty to live let alone succeed, and yet he has, overcoming every challenge, from an abusive home to the violent streets and gangs of South Central LA, to the notorious cell blocks of Folsom Prison where he was imprisoned for attempted murder.

After 10 years, 10 months, and 10 days behind bars, Shorty gained his freedom and the chance to put his entrepreneurial and negotiation skills to the test. He cut the ribbon on his own business, Shortywood, with three goals: to turn his life around, act as a talent agent for little people and establish and fund charities that advocate for, rescue and place abandoned or abused pit bulls into safe homes. In the process, he became a reality-TV star. Now, with Hercules, his rescued pit bull and newly trained service dog by his side, Shorty continues to save pits from the basements and backyards of breeders and abusers while taking on new and even bigger challenges. And nothing is gonna stand in his way.
Shorty Rossi is four feet tall—and rising.  (summary written by Amazon:

Beyond the Myth

http://www.beyondthemythmovie.com/

Unfairly known as violent killers, Pit Bulls have suffered from the stigma of negative media coverage that has lead to city-wide bans across the country. This breed-specific legislation has torn pets away from families, and killed thousands of innocent dogs in cities like Denver, Miami, Cincinnati, and San Francisco.

The film investigates the myths associated with these breeds, challenges the idea that they are inherently vicious, and presents eye-opening research regarding the media’s role in influencing people’s opinion on dog attacks.

Stripping away the preconceptions to show the loving companions they can be, Beyond the Myth is an important, must see film for all dog lovers.
